TCU Soccer is making waves on the international soccer scene. Former goalkeeper Kelsey Walters landed in Iceland last week and has her first professional game with KR this Wednesday. KR is traditionally one of the stronger teams in Europe! Good luck Wally!

And new signee, Monica Alvardo, just flew from Mexico City to Cancun today with the Mexican National Team. Monica is in the running to make Mexico's World Cup squad for this June!

Purple & White Competition

The annual purple and white competition is going strong at the moment. On Tuesday things really got interesting when the game of the day was flag football. The girls were very into it and devised plays on both sides of the ball. It was a good game that went both ways and the physical play was all fun and part of the game.

Today the competition continues with sand volleyball. White team looks to get a point back as the purple team leads the competition. It should be another great day with perfect temperatures for a sand volleyball match today. good luck girls.

Good end to Spring Season

This past weekend the girls' finished off the spring season with a great result with Texas. On Saturday the horned frogs fought back and tied Texas 2-2 with more chances to score than Texas it was definitely TCU's day. It was a great result for the girls and giving them great momentum into next year. Later that night we held our annual Soccer Banquet where we honored the seniors and handed out all of the team awards such as all-conference academic and individuals' recognition. To finish off the next few weeks we will finish our annual spring competion the Purple vs. White games.

Spring Season

This past weekend at beatiful Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium, the girls had two games versus Baylor and a split game between Texas Womens and Tyler JC. Saturday versus Baylor the girls controlled the physical play and maintained possession of the ball; with a Kim Castleberry strike the game ended 1-0 in favor of TCU giving the Horned Frogs their first win over Baylor. Sunday versus Texas Womens and Tyler JC the girls were up against the wall having played the day before. Katy Taylor had a freekick goal from 30 yards out into the top corner, she followed that up by scoring a header off a cornerkick leading the way to a 2-1 win. The next and final spring match is this Saturday versus Texas at noon, Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium.

The TCU soccer program has announced the dates for the Horned Frog Soccer Academy this summer. Sessions will be offered in June and July and include programs for Juniors, Advanced, Elite Girls and Goalkeepers. Online registration is available at www.HornedFrogSoccer.com. All of the academies are held on the TCU campus, which provides campers with top-flight soccer facilities in addition to a cafeteria and dormitories that are all within easy walking distance of each other. Good win for the U-20s

The USA U-20's won their first match versus Suriname 4-0 earlier this week. After spending a week here at TCU training in our stadium; the U-20's are off to a great start in their qualifiers. With plenty of DFW Metroplex kids on the roster it is a very fun group to watch and keep up with. We wish the U-20s the best of luck in their next match this Saturday versus Panama.

The TCU soccer program hosted the United States’ Under-20 Men’s National Team at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium this week. The national squad took over the Horned Frogs’ facilities for a week of training, including the fields and Jane Justin Field House.

“We have a few players on the team from this area that spoke highly of TCU,” U.S. head coach Thomas Rongen said. “It’s a great pitch and the treatment that we have received from head coach Dan Abdalla and TCU has been first class. It was very important for us to be able to use all of the facilities and I would say that TCU has been a very gracious host.”

“The facilities have been great, almost too good,” Rongen said. “We know that when we get to Guatemala, we won’t be playing on fields like this. It is in excellent condition. The facility has a nice ambiance, which is important as well. I would say thumbs up for everything from the locker rooms to equipment and the fields. The people have been very accommodating and that is very important to us and to U.S. Soccer.”

The next stop on the team's travel is Pizza Hut Park tonight at 6pm when they play the FC Dallas reserves in a friendly match. We wish them the best of luck and safe travels to South America for their World Cup Qualifying.

The USA under-20's national team is training here at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium this week in preparation for their World Cup qualifying in Guatemala next week. It is really special to host any national team training, but to have a USA team in attend ace here is truly a pleasure. The trainings are fun to watch, they are a good team with a great attitude. In addition, it is a good thing to know that our soccer facilities are national team caliber.

The TCU Horned Frogs will open a four-game homestand Tuesday night when they play host to cross town rival, UT Arlington. First pitch at Lupton Stadium is set for 6:30 p.m.

TCU tallied its first sweep of the season and moved to 4-0 on the road.• The TCU pitching staff limited Texas Tech to 12 hits in 27 innings pitched and allowed it to score in just two innings (the fifth on Saturday and the ninth on Sunday).• Through the first eight games TCU had just 70 hits. The Horned Frogs tallied 45 hits in the three games against Texas Tech.• Kyle Winkler dominated for the second week, moving to 3-0 with a solid performance on Friday. Baseball Continues to Win

* The Frogs won for the first time in Waco since April 8, 2008 when they took a 4-3 decision over the Bears.* Baylor has not scored on TCU in the last 18 innings pitched. The Frogs handed Baylor a 9-0 defeat in the NCAA Fort Worth Regional Championship on June 6.* Jantzen Witte, Brance Rivera and Jimmie Pharr have all hit safely in each of the four games of this season.* TCU has limited opponents to just seven runs this season.

Baseball picked to repeat as Champions

The TCU Horned Frog baseball team was selected to win its sixth consecutive Mountain West Conference title, according to a vote of the seven MWC head coaches and a selected media panel. TCU received all 16 first-place votes. Additionally, six players earned preseason all-conference recognition.

Under the direction of 2010 NCBWA Coach of the Year Jim Schlossnagle, TCU returns its entire starting rotation and seven starting position players from a Horned Frog squad that finished the season with a 54-14 overall (21-5 MWC) record and No. 3 ranking in the final polls. The Frogs captured both the Mountain West Conference regular-season and tournament titles before advancing to the semifinals of the 2010 College World Series.

Consensus 2010 Freshman Pitcher of the Year Matt Purke (So./LHP) headlines the list of TCU returnees and is joined by fellow all-MWC performers Steven Maxwell (Sr./RHP); Kyle Winkler (Jr./RHP); Jason Coats (Jr./OF); Taylor Featherston (Jr./SS); Jerome Pena (Sr./2B) and Brance Rivera (Jr./OF). TCU women’s soccer head coach Dan Abdalla announced the signing of Dixie Kurrus Friday, becoming the fourth signee of the 2011 signing class for the Horned Frogs. “Dixie is a very dynamic and versatile player that can attack you from the backline,” Abdalla said. “She will do well in our program and I’m excited to see how she will help us improve and compete for championships.”Kurrus, an Argyle, Texas, product, comes to Fort Worth after splitting her high school career between Argyle High School and Coram Deo Academy, while also suiting up for Dallas Solar ’93. Kurrus served as Argyle’s leading scorer with 18 goals in her sophomore season, the program’s first year as a UIL-approved squad. In 2009, Kurrus was a member of the ODP North Texas State Team and was a National Championship finalist. She also earned invitations to train at several regional camps.

The TCU baseball team will kick off its annual Alumni weekend Friday night with the First Pitch Banquet followed by Saturday's Alumni game. First pitch Saturday is slated for 1 p.m. Matt Purke will be the starting pitcher for the varsity team

A number of former players will make their way to the field on Saturday morning. Newcomers to the Alumni roster include 2010 draft picks Bryan Holaday, Tyler Lockwood, Greg Holle and Matt Curry. TCU Announces Three Soccer Signings

TCU women's soccer head coach Dan Abdalla announced the signing of three student-athletes Thursday who will attend TCU in the fall and begin competition at the start of the 2011 season.

The class is made up of one student-athlete from the Lone Star State to go along with a pair of players out of California.

"We are really excited about the three players that we have coming for the 2011 season," TCU head coach Dan Abdalla said. "I feel that they will address the specific areas will help us improve and compete for championships next season and for many seasons. These girls will do well in our program and I'm just as impressed with their character as I am with their play on the field."

Tori Hale, a forward/midfielder from Abilene, Texas was a two-time team captain and offensive most valuable player at Abilene High School under head coach Brent Camp. The four-year letterwinner has been a first-team all-district selection every season for the Eagles, while also being named the 2010 District 3-5A MVP at the forward position. Hale will bring more athleticism and speed to the Frogs' roster, as she also lettered and earned the role of captain in track, cross country and volleyball for AHS. Hale played her club soccer for the Abilene Soccer Club. Hale's brother, Tyler, is currently playing baseball at the University of Arizona, while other brother, Chris, played baseball for Abilene Christian University. She is also the cousin of current TCU football player, D.J. Yendrey.

"We are happy to sign Tori Hale from Abilene," Abdalla said. "Not a lot of people knew about her because of where she lives, but her athleticism and creativity is extremely dynamic. She will play at the top or in the midfield for us. Every time she touches the ball, she has the ability to change the game."

Natalie Werner is a midfielder from Lake Forest, Calif., that played at Trabuco Hills High School and club soccer for the So Cal Blues. Werner earned most valuable offensive player honors in 2010, while also getting first-team all-league considerations in 2009 and 2010. In her club career, she has helped the Blues to five Surf College Cup championships form 2006-2011 and a USYS National title and National League crown in 2010.

"Natalie Werner has played for a club team that regularly competed for a national championship and she has been an key cog and leader on that team," Abdalla said. "As far as on the field, she is very diverse and she will be able to play anywhere for us."

Rounding out the 2011 class, TCU picked up a goalkeeper from Chino Hills, Calif., in Alicen Wright. Last season, as a junior at Ruben S. Ayala High School, she was named Sierra League Defensive Most Valuable Player and helped lead her squad to an undefeated record and Sierra League Championship. A standout in the classroom, Wright was also named her school's Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She played her club seasons for Legends Football Club. Wright comes from a long line of athletes in her family, as her grandfather, Dominic Patrone played football at Arizona State, her uncle, Lou Patrone, played football at San Jose State, and her cousin, Nancy Ray Johnson was a swimmer at TCU in the mid 1980's.

"Alicen is just a competitor in goal," Abdalla said. "She absolutely hates to lose. I'm excited about the way she organizes and communicates with the back line. She has been in big games, so she has that big-time experience and I'm really looking forward to have her compete for our goalkeeper position."

Snow Day

The winter weather has brought plenty of snow to the North Texas area. The TCU campus got it's fair share of snow and the campus is closed for day. This is the second year in a row that the TCU campus was closed due to snow. The students love the snow days and really show their creativity especially the soccer girls who build snow man and have snowball fights. The Steelers are coming

The Pittsburgh Steelers arrive in DFW today and will be staying in Fort Worth for the Super Bowl. TCU has undergone some little changes such as: the football pratice fields have been painted and the Steelers logo has been stamped down. TCU will be the host practice site for the Steelers as they prepare for the Super Bowl. Everywhere you look there is Super Bowl action especially downtown where ESPN has setup their home base for the Super Bowl Coverage.

We are committed to putting together as attractive a football schedule as we can. We had originally agreed as a conference for the Boise State game to be a home game for us. To see it now reversed and moved to a road game is disappointing for our fans and community. We were also disappointed that Texas Tech chose not to come to Fort Worth this fall. Our focus right now is on finding opponents to complete our 2011 schedule. We hope to have our non-conference games finalized and announced soon.

Neeley Entrepreneurship Program Best In the Country

TCU’s Neeley Entrepreneurship Program http://www.nec.tcu.edu was named the 2011 National Model Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Program at the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE) annual conference in South Carolina on Saturday, Jan. 15.

TCU’s winning presentation focused on how the Neeley Entrepreneurship Program offers comprehensive, unique opportunities for TCU undergraduate students through the Neeley School of Business as well as a campus-wide entrepreneurship initiative. Brad Hancock, director of the Neeley Entrepreneurship Center, Keith Hmieleski, professor of management and program director for the Neeley Entrepreneurship Program, and Smilor delivered the presentation.

“Our approach to entrepreneurship begins with helping students identify and develop their individual talents and core virtues, then synergistically put them into action to accomplish entrepreneurial endeavors,” said Hmieleski. “This enables our students to focus on their strengths in a way that enhances engagement in the learning process and allows them to function with an economy of means. In the end, it is our hope to place each of our students on a path toward a career and life of meaning. We believe that sets us apart.”

Soccer team 5th Straight All-Academic Award

The TCU women's soccer program earned its fifth-consecutive Team Academic Award from the National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA), the organization announced Wednesday. To be eligible for the NSCAA Team Academic Award, a program must have a grade-point average of at least 3.0 for the 2009-10 academic year.

TCU was one of six Mountain West Conference schools to earn the honor, joining BYU, New Mexico, UNLV, Utah and Wyoming. In total, 444 college women's soccer programs were honored for producing at least a 3.0 team GPA.

Earlier this winter, Jordan Calhoun and Jackie Torda were named to the CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team. TCU has now had at least one student-athlete named to the academic all-district squad each of the past three seasons.

Calhoun, a Norman, Okla. native, earned third-team honors after netting six goals, while also dishing out three assists in 2010. Earlier this year, Calhoun became TCU's all-time leader in goals scored for a career with 29 career goals. She also moved into No. 2 all-time in points for a career with 69 points.

Torda, who was also a third-team honoree, closed her career finding the back of the net twice in 2010, while also posting two assists. Overall, the 2009 all-conference selection netted 20 goals for her career, which ranks No. 6 all-time in career goals in TCU history.

Goalkeeper Kelsey Walters received her bachelor’s degree during December Commencement. The Oklahoma City, Okla., product holds four of the top seven goals against averages marks in TCU history, highlighted by a program-best 0.84 output in 2008. Her 1.32 clip in four years tops the Horned Frogs’ all-time list. Walters’ registered the most minutes in goal (6,054) than any other TCU goalkeeper. She ranks third all-time for TCU in career saves (303) and shutouts (11).

TCU's Gary Patterson has been named American Football Monthly's 2010 Coach of the Year.

Patterson led the Horned Frogs to a No. 2 ranking and 13-0 season, capped by a 21-19 victory over Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl.

The Horned Frogs are the only team in the nation to finish in the top 10 in both the Associated Press and USA Today polls over the last three seasons. The 2010 campaign also saw TCU make its second-straight BCS appearance.

TCU posted the first 13-win campaign in its history while also recording the first undefeated season since its 1938 national championship team was 11-0. The No. 2 ranking was also the Horned Frogs' highest finish in a poll since being No. 1 in 1938.

Despite losing two defensive All-Americans to the first two rounds of the National Football League draft and a pair of four-year starters at cornerback, Patterson led TCU to the nation's top ranking in total defense for a third straight season.

Patterson is 98-28 in 10 years as TCU's head coach. His .778 winning percentage is second among active coaches with a minimum of five years experience.

With 98 victories, Patterson is 12 shy of surpassing Dutch Meyer (109) for the most wins in TCU history. Meyer coached TCU to its 1935 and 1938 national championships.

Patterson received nine National Coach of the Year honors last season when he led the Horned Frogs to a 12-1 record, No. 6 ranking and Fiesta Bowl appearance.

3 Frogs going to All-Star Game

TCU safety Alex Ibiloye, cornerback Jason Teague and wide receiverJimmy Young will play in the Eastham Energy College All-Star Game Sunday in Tempe, Ariz.

Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m. CST. The game will be televised nationally on Fox Sports affiliates, including Fox Sports Southwest in the Dallas/Fort Worth market.

Ibiloye, a two-year starter and four-year letterman, tied for sixth on TCU with 39 tackles this season. The Garland, Texas, native was named the Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Week after forcing three fumbles in a 62-7 win over Tennessee Tech.

Teague, from Carthage, Texas, was a second-team All-MWC selection in his first year as a starter in 2010. He topped the Horned Frogs with seven pass breakups while adding two interceptions for a team-high nine passes defended. He also forced two fumbles while totaling 37 tackles.

Young closed his career as one of the more productive receivers in TCU history. His 2,316 receiving yards rank second on the Horned Frogs' career list, while his 147 receptions place fifth. Young's 13 touchdown receptions are tied for fifth all-time.

A native of Monroe, La., Young was a three-time All-MWC performer. In his final game at TCU, he tied a season-high with five receptions for 57 yards in a 21-19 Rose Bowl victory over Wisconsin.

Also making all-star game appearances from TCU are quarterback Andy Dalton and wide receiver/return specialist Jeremy Kerley. They will play in the Jan. 29 Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala.

TCU center Jake Kirkpatrick was formally presented the Rimington Trophy in a Saturday night ceremony at the Rococo Theatre in Lincoln, Neb.

The Rimington Trophy, named after former University of Nebraska All-America center Dave Rimington, honors the nation's best center. In 1982, Rimington became the only player to win the Outland Trophy and Lombardi Award in the same year. He also placed fifth in Heisman Trophy voting that season.

Kirkpatrick arrived in Lincoln, Neb., Friday night after spending time with TCU teammate Tejay Johnson at the Walter Camp All-America weekend in New Haven, Conn. Kirkpatrick then returned to Fort Worth in time for Sunday's Rose Bowl championship celebration in the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.

Kirkpatrick, who set the blocking scheme on each play for the Horned Frogs, did not commit a penalty or allow a sack in his senior year.

A first-team All-American, Kirkpatrick was also the lone offensive player to be one of four finalists for the Rotary Lombardi Award.

Kirkpatrick was the anchor of an offensive line that enabled TCU to set single-season school records for touchdowns (73), points scored (541), first downs (327) and total offense (6,199 yards).

TCU ranked fourth nationally in scoring (41.6 points), 10th in rushing (247.4 yards) and 12th in total offense (476.9 yards). The Horned Frogs tied for fifth in fewest sacks allowed, surrendering just nine in 13 contests (0.7 per game)

The TCU baseball program keeps making history as it earned its first-ever No. 1 ranking. The Horned Frogs debuted in the top spot of Collegiate Baseball's preseason rankings released Monday.

TCU returns its entire starting rotation from a year ago and seven starters in the field. All three members of the rotation (Matt Purke, Steven Maxwell and Kyle Winkler) have earned preseason All-American accolades, while Jason Coats represents the hitters as a preseason All-American.

The Frogs finished the 2010 season ranked No. 3 after an historic run through the postseason that saw them come within a win of the championship series.

Opening day is just around the corner as the Frogs host Kansas on Feb. 18.

Basketball Takes Down Oklahoma

Emily Carter and Helena Sverrisdottir combined to score 12 of TCU's last 13 points to lead the Horned Frogs to a 76-69 victory over No. 14 Oklahoma Sunday night at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.

In a game that saw nine lead changes and 10 ties, Carter made bucket-after-bucket down the stretch, including six-straight points in the closing minutes that helped seal the Frog victory in front of 4,003 spectators at the DMC. The senior finished the night with a game-high 26 points, while also grabbing eight boards. Sverrisdottir, who moved into No. 4 all-time in career field goals made in program history Sunday, was just as dangerous, scorching the Sooners for 24 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including 12-of-13 from the charity stripe.

Finally, sophomore DeLisa Gross had another solid outing with 11 points and six boards. Gross has now scored in double-figures in five of her last seven outings. Fellow sophomore Starr Crawford just missed her fourth double-double of the season with a game-high 14 rebounds, while also chipping in with nine points.

Oklahoma, who was held to only two field goals down the stretch, was fueled by the return of Fort Worth native Whitney Hand Sunday. Hand, who saw her first action in over a year Sunday night, totaled 24 points, while also grabbing 11 boards. All-America candidate Danielle Robinson, who was hassled by an aggressive Horned Frog defense all night, totaled 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting.

Overall, TCU moved to 8-6 on the year with the win, while the Sooners dropped to 10-3 on the season. By defeating the nationally ranked Sooners Sunday, the Purple and White have now upended at least one ranked opponent in each of the last nine seasons.

Rose Bowl Champions

Andy Dalton threw a touchdown pass and ran for a score, linebacker Tank Carder swatted down a 2-point conversion pass attempt with 2 minutes to play, and No. 3 TCU completed a perfect season with its first Rose Bowl victory, 21-19 over fourth-ranked Wisconsin on Saturday.

Bart Johnson caught an early TD pass and recovered a late onside kick for the Mountain West champion Horned Frogs (13-0), who followed up their second straight unbeaten regular season by busting the BCS in dramatic fashion.

Dalton passed for 219 yards for TCU, which won't win the national title - that will go to either Auburn or Oregon. They meet in the BCS championship game in nine days.

These ferocious Frogs still proved they can play with anybody on college football's biggest stages.

"I've been saying for a while that parity in college football is here," TCU coach Gary Patterson said. "I got texts from everybody across the nation, from Boise State and schools all over. ... Today we played for us, and for all the schools that wanted a chance."

Montee Ball rushed for 132 yards and a late score for the Big Ten co-champion Badgers (11-2), whose loss capped a nightmare New Year's Day for their conference. The Big Ten went 0-5 in bowl games Saturday, and the Badgers fell just short of a late rally when Carder made a defensive play that will live forever in TCU lore.

TCU lost last year's Fiesta Bowl to Boise State, but that's still the only loss of the past two seasons for Patterson's remarkable Fort Worth power. TCU is the first school from a non-automatic qualifying conference to play in the Rose Bowl since the advent of the BCS, but the Frogs were right at home in Pasadena.

Luke Shivers' 1-yard TD run put TCU ahead 21-13 early in the third quarter, but neither team scored again until Wisconsin mounted a 77-drive in the waning minutes. Montee Ball rushed for a 4-yard score with 2 minutes to play, but Carder made a perfectly timed leap at the line to bat down Scott Tolzien's throw to the end zone. The intended receiver was open in the end zone.

Johnson easily grabbed Wisconsin's onside kick, and TCU rushed for a final first down to kill the clock.

Patterson stopped his players from dumping a Gatorade bucket on him before time ran out, lecturing them with a smile on his face. When the final seconds ticked off, the Frogs ran about the field in a frenzy, eventually collecting near the TCU band and the quarter of the Rose Bowl stands filled with purple-clad fans.

And eventually the Frogs doused there coach, too.

Dalton went 15 for 23 and rushed for a first-quarter score, winning the game's offensive MVP award. But the defense deserved the credit for hanging on when TCU couldn't score in the game's final 26 minutes.

Carder was the leader all game and the man at the end.

"I saw him cock his arm back, and I jumped up and swatted it away," Carder said. "I was in the right place at the right time. They almost (wore us down), but we pulled it out at the end. It seems like we got a little bit better toward the end."

Freshman All-Americans

CU wide receiver Josh Boyce and defensive end Stansly Maponga have been named Freshman All-Americans by CollegeFootballNews.com.

Maponga is a second-team pick. A native of Carrollton, Texas, who has added 31 pounds since arriving at TCU, Maponga was a second-team All-Mountain West Conference selection.

Maponga has started 10 games and places second on the TCU defensive line with 29 tackles, including three for loss. He has 2 1/2 sacks. Maponga recorded a season-high five stops in victories over SMU and Air Force. He has at least one tackle for loss in four games.

Boyce, an honorable-mention Freshman All-American, has set a TCU rookie record with his team-high 602 receiving yards. His 33 receptions are second on the Horned Frogs and the most by a TCU freshman since Cory Rodgers' 37 in 2003.

A native of Copperas Cove, Texas, Boyce topped 100 yards in receiving twice. He recorded a season-best eight catches for 127 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-3 win over BYU. The 127 yards were the most by a TCU freshman since Rodgers had 171 on six grabs at Houston in 2003. It was also the highest total by a Horned Frog since Jimmy Young's school-record 226 yards versus Wyoming in 2008.

Boyce also had three receptions for 126 yards and a pair of scores, including a 93-yard strike fromAndy Dalton, in a 47-7 victory at Utah.

Boyce has started six games and has at least one reception in 11 of 12 contests.

TCU home of All-Americans

CBSSports.com selected TCU safety Tejay Johnson to its first-team All-America team with linebacker Tank Carder and center Jake Kirkpatrick second-team picks.

Five Horned Frogs (Johnson, Carder, Kirkpatrick, defensive end Wayne Daniels and kickoff returner Jeremy Kerley) have received first-team All-America honors this season.

Johnson was one of three finalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, presented to the nation's top defensive back. He was also a first-team All-American by the Walter Camp Football Foundation and Rivals.com.

Johnson ranks third on TCU with 56 tackles. The senior from Garland, Texas, tops the Horned Frogs with three interceptions while tying for the team lead with three forced fumbles. He also has three pass breakups.

A junior from Sweeny, Texas, Carder is fourth on the Horned Frogs with 54 tackles, including 6 1/2 for loss. He has 2 1/2 sacks. Carder is tied for second on TCU with five pass breakups while adding an interception and fumble recovery.

Johnson and Carder are keys to a TCU defense that leads the nation in total defense (215.4 yards) for the third straight season. The Horned Frogs also rank first in scoring defense (11.4 points), pass defense (126.3 yards), fewest first downs allowed per game (11.3), opponent third-down percentage (21.9) and three-and-outs forced per game (6.4). TCU is third in run defense (89.2 yards).

Carder was also a first-team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association.

Kirkpatrick, recipient of the 2010 Rimington Trophy as the nation's top center, was also a first-team Walter Camp All-American.

TCU's Jake Kirkpatrick has been named the winner of the 2010 Rimington Trophy, presented to the nation's most outstanding center.

Also a first-team Walter Camp All-American and the only offensive player in the last two years to be a Rotary Lombardi Award finalist, Kirkpatrick was announced as the winner Thursday night at The Home Depot College Football Awards Show televised on ESPN from Lake Buena Vista, Fla. He becomes the first center from TCU to win the award.

Dave Rimington, the award's namesake, was a consensus two-time first-team All-America center at Nebraska (1981-82). He also became the Outland Trophy's only double winner as the nation's best college interior lineman.

"Jake has been an instrumental part of the offensive line for TCU this season, and a major reason they still are undefeated," Rimington said. "We are extremely proud to name him the winner of the 2010 Rimington Trophy.

"Congratulations to Jake and all the watch list candidates and finalists."

Rose Bowl

No. 3 TCU has accepted an invitation to face No. 5 Wisconsin Jan. 1 in the 97th Rose Bowl Game presented by VIZIO.

The "Granddaddy of Them All®" will kick off from Pasadena, Calif., at 2:10 p.m. PST with the game televised by ESPN.

The third-ranked Horned Frogs (12-0), having posted their second consecutive undefeated regular season, will be making their first appearance in the Rose Bowl. It's the second straight year TCU has played in a BCS game.

TCU is tied for the nation's second-longest current winning streak at 12 in a row and is one of three undefeated teams this season.

It's the first time TCU has played in a bowl game with the two teams having a combined ranking this high since the 1938 Sugar Bowl, when the top-ranked Horned Frogs defeated No. 5 Carnegie Tech, 15-7, to win the national championship. TCU is 5-5-1 when playing a bowl game with both teams ranked.

The Horned Frogs and Badgers (11-1) will be meeting for the first time since a 14-14 tie at Wisconsin in the 1970 campaign.

TCU is facing a Big Ten opponent for the first time since a 48-45 double-overtime victory over Northwestern in the 2004 season opener. Combined with a 48-24 win at Northwestern in 2002, the Horned Frogs are 2-0 versus Big Ten opponents under head coach Gary Patterson.

Outside of four games with Northwestern since 1999, TCU has not faced a Big Ten opponent since a 9-7 loss at Minnesota in 1974.

TCU is 15-3 in its last 18 games versus teams from conferences with automatic BCS bids, including a 6-2 mark versus the Big 12 and a 4-0 record against the Pac-10.

The Rose Bowl will mark the 26th bowl appearance in TCU's history. The Horned Frogs are 11-13-1 in bowl games.

TCU is 7-4 in bowl games with head coach Gary Patterson on its coaching staff and 5-4 with him as head coach. Prior to Patterson's arrival on campus in 1998, the Horned Frogs had just four bowl wins in their history.

The Horned Frogs will be making their 12th bowl appearance in the last 13 seasons. TCU is one of just 14 schools to play in at least 12 bowl games over the last 13 years.

With its trip to the Rose Bowl, TCU will have played in all four current bowl games (Rose, Fiesta, Orange, Sugar) that are part of the BCS.

Congrats Festus Kigen

TCU senior Festus Kigen was named the 2010 South Central Region Men’s Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's Wednesday. Festus also used to help train the Women's Soccer Team here at TCU.

Kigen became the first male in TCU history to win a regional title, breaking the tape with the time of 30:11.1. He also became the third Frog overall to win a regional crown, joining Mary Kinyanjui and Glady’s Keitany.

The victory marked the third top-10 finish at a regional meet for Kigen in his four-year career at TCU, punching his ticket for his third and final appearance at the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Ind. The honor is the third all-region team honor for Kigen.   

USA plays South Africa today!

The last time we directed our attention to South Africa, the Dutch were turning the World Cup final into something resembling a mixed martial arts encounter. Thanks, Nigel de Jong. We can expect a much more civilized match on Wednesday, when the U.S. faces South Africa in the Nelson Mandela Challenge in Cape Town.

It's the 12th time the Stars and Stripes will play a match in the backyard of the 2010 World Cup hosts in the past three years, having competed in the 2007 edition of the Nelson Mandela Challenge, the 2009 Confederations Cup and the World Cup. Bafana Bafana are yet to record a win over their American counterparts in their three previous meetings, but South Africa is a much improved side.

What do you need to know about this friendly? Here are five observations:

1. Bob Bradley's babies

The American coach has included two teenagers in his 18-man squad. Striker Juan Agudelo and defender Gale Agbossoumonde are the first two products of U.S. Soccer's Development Academy to earn national call-ups. There are six uncapped players in the squad, and a half dozen more with only 10 international caps between them. The regulars, Landon Donovan, Clint Dempsey,Jozy Altidore, Tim Howard and Carlos Bocanegra, among others, will not be making the trip. Bradley said he is building toward the 2011 Gold Cup and his preparation starts here.

Sverrisdottir Named Lowe's Senior CLASS Award Candidate

TCU senior Helena Sverrisdottir was one of 30 NCAA Division I women’s basketball players named as candidates for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award Wednesday. The award is given annually to the student-athlete in his/her sport who best excels in the areas of community, classroom, character and competition.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

In addition to being an All-America candidate entering her final season as a Horned Frog, Sverrisdottir has also made an impact on both TCU and the Fort Worth community in several other areas. A 3.0 student who is on track to graduate this December in only three-and-one-half years, she has been named to the Dean’s List during her time on campus and was a member of the Academic All-Mountain West Conference Team last spring. Among the community service projects in which she has taken part include elementary school and hospital visits and serving as a volunteer for the area food bank and YMCA.

The 2011 women’s candidate class includes five players who were CoSIDA Academic All-Americans last year, 22 student-athletes with grade point averages of 3.0 or better, four players who participated in the 2010 Women’s Final Four and 15 players on the preseason watch list for the John R. Wooden Award, including Sverrisdottir.

The list of 30 student-athletes will be narrowed to 10 women’s finalists midway through the regular season, and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one finalist who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition. The Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced at the NCAA Women’s Final Four in Indianapolis.

With a 47-7 win at Utah, No. 3 TCU has been named the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Team of the Week.

It's the third straight year and fourth time in six seasons that TCU has received the honor. The Horned Frogs were also the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Team of the Week after wins over BYU the last two seasons and a 2005 victory at Oklahoma.

In snapping Utah's 21-game home winning streak, TCU improved to 10-0 for the second straight year and third time in eight seasons.

Utah entered the game with the nation's third-ranked scoring offense (45.2 points per game) but was held to 199 yards. The Utes did not cross midfield until the fourth quarter with TCU leading 40-0.

The Horned Frogs held the ball for over 39 minutes and totaled 558 yards of offense, including 328 in the first half. TCU led 20-0 after the opening quarter.

In six Mountain West Conference games this season, TCU has allowed just three touchdowns while outscoring its opponents 236-23.

Junior Jordan Calhoun was honored Tuesday night by the Mountain West Conference, collecting first-team all-conference accolades.

Calhoun, a Norman, Okla. native, earned first-team honors after netting six goals, while also dishing out three assists in 2010. Earlier this year, Calhoun became TCU's all-time leader in goals scored for a career with 29 career goals. She also moved into No. 2 all-time in points for a career with 69 points. The junior, who received first-team all-conference recognition for the second time in three years, closed the season ranked in the top-5 in the MWC in shots, goals and shots-per-game.

Overall, Calhoun helped the Horned Frogs post the No. 46 ranked scoring offense in the NCAA this fall. With Calhoun leading the way, the Purple and White offensive attack also finished No. 1 overall in the Mountain West Conference in six different offensive categories.

TCU finished its regular season with a 7-10-2 overall record after battling nationally ranked New Mexico to a 1-1 draw last Saturday night.

TCU said goodbye to five seniors Saturday night in Chelsea Cody, Martin, Torda, Walters and Nikki Wilbur. The group has recorded 38 wins during their time in Fort Worth.

Kim Castleberry scored a first half goal as TCU and No. 23 New Mexico battled to a 1-1 double overtime draw Saturday night at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.

"I'm happy that the team provided the effort to send out our seniors on a good note," said head coach Dan Abdalla. "I thought we battled hard and left everything out on the field tonight against a top-25 opponent. New Mexico was the best team in the conference and they deserve a championship. Hopefully, this showed our kids the level that they can play at every night."

Walters had an impressive night in her final outing in a Horned Frog uniform, saving seven shots, while Cornell posted five saves at Jane Justin Field.

With the tie, the Frogs closed their season with a 7-10-2 record overall and a 1-5-1 mark in MWC play. New Mexico, who captured the Mountain West Conference title Saturday night, moved to 11-1-5 and 5-0-2 in the Mountain West.

The TCU women's soccer program will close its 2010 season Saturday night with a home contest against No. 23 New Mexico at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.

When TCU takes on Wyoming and Air Force this weekend, the Frogs will look to better their chances of qualifying for the Mountain West Conference Championship, which will take place in San Diego, Calif. TCU, who has three points in the conference standings heading into this weekend, sits ahead of both Wyoming and Air Force in the conference and could automatically punch their ticket to the conference tournament with victories over both schools. The Mountain West Conference Championship will begin on Nov. 3 at the SDSU Sports Deck.

Records Being Broken Quickly
Last Friday night, junior Jordan Calhoun became the all-time leading goal scorer in TCU history, notching her 28th and 29th goals of her career. The Norman, Okla., native, who jumped past Lizzy Karoly for the all-time record in goals scored, also moved into No. 2 all-time in career points with 69 points. Calhoun needs only seven more points to become TCU's all-time leader in points for a career. Former Frog great Sarah Campbell recorded 75 points between 1986-1989. Not to be outdone, junior Kaylie Garcia moved into No. 6 all-time in career assists with 11, while senior Jackie Torda is currently No. 10 in assists with 10.

What To Watch For This Weekend
On Thursday night, TCU will look for its first victory over BYU in program history. The Horned Frogs have come close to defeating the Cougars during recent years, falling 1-0 in 2008 and 2-0 last fall.

On Saturday, TCU will rely on a solid nucleus that has found success in recent years against Utah. Dating back to 2007, four current student-athletes have found the back of the net against the Utes, including senior's Cheryl Martin and Nikki Wilbur. TCU junior Jordan Calhoun and senior Kelsey Walters were selected as the Mountain West Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week on Monday.

Calhoun became the all-time leading goal scorer in school history last Friday night as TCU downed regionally ranked UNLV at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium, 3-1. Calhoun led the Horned Frog offensive attack with three shots-on-goal and two goals.

She put the Frogs on the board 2 minutes, 54 seconds into the game, finding the back of the net off an assist by Jackie Torda. The goal, which at that point gave the Oklahoma native 28 for her career, moved the junior past former Frog great Lizzy Karoly for the all-time record in goals scored in TCU history. Calhoun continued her impressive night in the 66th minute, netting her second goal of the game on a breakaway from Kaylie Garcia. The Norman, Okla., native weaved through the Rebel defense and blasted the ball past UNLV goalkeeper Kylie Wassell to give TCU a comfortable 3-0 lead late in the contest.

Despite facing 19 shots and five corner kicks, Walters posted eight saves to preserve TCU's first conference victory last Friday night. Walters, who blanked UNLV for the entire first half, gave up her lone goal of the weekend in the 85th minute. The senior helped the Frogs hold both Ashleigh Shoughro and Amanda Forrester in check, limiting the duo to only one goal despite them combining for 11 shots, including seven shots-on-goal.

Torda Ready For More HeroicsSenior Jackie Torda has played her best against UNLV during her four years in Fort Worth. Overall, the Colleyville native has posted 11 shots and three goals all-time against the Rebels, including two of the Horned Frogs three goals last fall. Upon further look, Torda has played a major part in TCU's late game heroics against UNLV the last couple of years.

In 2009, Torda scored the gamewinner in overtime at the 97:16 mark to lift TCU to a 3-2 victory over UNLV at Peter Johann Memorial Field. Rewind to the season before and the then sophomore netted the equalizing goal in the 84th minute of the second half to force overtime.
Bouncing Back NicelyThe Frogs will look to continue a winning trend this Friday night when it faces off against UNLV. During the last four seasons, TCU is 3-0-1 in its next game following its first conference loss of the season. Overall, the Purple and White have combined to outscore their opponents in their next game, 5-1. In those four contests, TCU has played in overtime twice, including a double overtime scoreless match with New Mexico in 2006.

Double Overtimes Nothing New Under AbdallaWhen TCU battled San Diego State to double overtime last weekend, it marked the fifth double overtime contest in the last six years in MWC play. TCU, who has taken UNLV to overtime in both 2008 and 2009, has played a total of 12 overtime matches against conference foes under head coach Dan Abdalla during the last five years. Kelsey Walters honored by Athletic Department

The TCU Athletics Department has named soccer's Kelsey Walters and football's Colin Jones as its Scholar-Athletes of the Month for September.

Walters, a nutrition senior, earned Mountain West Conference Player of the Week honors earlier this month. In September, she recorded three shutouts, including one against then No. 17 Memphis.

With her effort at Memphis, Walters moved into third place on TCU's all-time shutout list. Additionally, she shut out opponents in the second on four occasions during September. Overall in September, Walters grabbed 19 saves and recorded a .760 save percentage.

Jones, a communications senior, racked up 22 tackles during the month of September. He tallied his season high of seven tackles in wins over Baylor and SMU.

Against Tennessee Tech and Baylor, Jones recorded 1.5 tackles for loss. The Bridgeport, Texas, native, who was limited to just seven games a year ago due to injury, started three of four games during the month of September.

TCU Dominates Houston Baptist

risten Halverson scored two goals and assisted on another Sunday as TCU routed Houston Baptist at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium, 5-2.

In her first multi-goal game of her career, Halverson led the Horned Frog offensive attack, recording five shots, two goals and one assist. The junior from California posted back-to-back goals in the 73rd and 75th minute, respectively, to secure the 5-2 victory at Jane Justin Field.

TCU, who was in HBU territory for the majority of the day, held a 28-8 shot advantage in the match, including a 14-2 mark in the second half. Overall, the Purple and White rallied off four of their five goals in the second half. Houston Baptist didn't record a shot attempt during the second half until the 68th minute.

Senior Cheryl Martin put the Frogs on the board early in the contest, scoring her second goal of the season off an assist by Kaylie Garcia. On the play, Garcia followed up a free kick by Alex Mechalske and placed the ball in the air to Martin, who headed it into the back of the net to give TCU the early 1-0 lead.

Fellow senior Nikki Wilbur appeared to have given the Horned Frogs a 2-0 lead a few moments later, but her goal was taken off the board following a corner kick by Mechalske.

Following a goal by HBU's Yuri Santibanez in the 9th minute, Halverson got right to work, taking a pass fromKim Castleberry and firing it towards the goal, but the Huskies Shelby Horn made a big save to keep the score tied at 1-1.

Castleberry and Jordan Calhoun tried to light up the scoreboard halfway through the early portion of the contest, missing on consecutive chances. A few moments later, Halverson pressured Houston Baptist, but watched as the ball sailed high over the top half of the goal.

In the 26th minute, Kelly Johnson ignited the Horned Frog offense, drilling a shot towards the back of the net, but Horn was up to the task again, stopping the ball before it could cross the goal.

HBU's Isla Cameron put the Huskies ahead in the match midway through the first half, scoring off a pass from Kelsey Reichow.

Martin appeared to have scored her second goal of the day in the 33rd minute, but Horn made a diving save to keep HBU on top. Right before the break, freshman Ashley Jones tried to tie the game at 2-2 heading into halftime, but watched as her shot hit the post.

Trailing 2-1, TCU quickly tied the game at 2-2 early in the second half when Jackie Torda, a Colleyville native, headed the ball past Horn off a free kick from Katie Taylor.

Garcia tried to get into the scoring act a few moments later, but her shot from outside the box was blocked by a sliding HBU defender.

At the 72:12 mark of the second half, Halverson notched her first of two goals on the day, scoring off a cross from Brittany Slyman. The junior continued to pressure the Huskies a few moments later, increasing the TCU lead to 4-2. On the play, Garcia blasted a ball towards the top half of the goal, but the ball hit the crossbar and deflected back to Halverson who placed it into the back of the net.

Slyman put a punctuation mark on an impressive second half for the Frogs in the 78th minute, placing the ball past a diving Horn off assists from Calhoun and Halverson to secure the 5-2 victory.

With the win, TCU improved to 6-6-1 on the year, while HBU dropped the 3-8-1 on the season. The Horned Frogs had a total of 11 different players record shot attempts on Sunday, including multiple shot attempts from eight different players.

Walters, who blanked Houston Baptist for the entire second half, recorded three saves, while Horn posted seven stops on the day.

TCU will resume conference action on Friday, Oct. 8 against UNLV. Start time is set for 7 p.m. at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.

TCU Athletics Director named AD of the Year

CU director of intercollegiate athletics Chris Del Conte has been presented the 2010 Bobby Dodd Division I-A Athletic Director's Award.

The Bobby Dodd Foundation recognized Del Conte for his support last season in the TCU football program posting a 12-1 record, No. 6 final ranking and the school's first-ever BCS appearance. Horned Frog coach Gary Patterson was honored as the 2009 Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year.

"I would like to extend a special thanks to (TCU) Chancellor (Victor) Boschini and my predecessors Frank Windegger, Eric Hyman and Danny Morrison in laying the foundation for us to receive this award," Del Conte said. "TCU is defined by momentum, not just in our athletics program but throughout campus. It is a privilege for my family to call TCU home, and I'm most appreciative for the opportunity to serve a terrific Chancellor and Board of Trustees."

In his first year on campus, Del Conte saw TCU set a single-season school record with six conference championships (football, men's swimming and diving, women's basketball, men's tennis, women's tennis and baseball) while also winning a national title (rifle).

The momentum continued into the summer. In just six months, $115 million was raised for the renovation of the west side and north end zone of Amon G. Carter Stadium. The announcement was made Aug. 16. Work will begin immediately following the 2010 football season and be fully completed in 2012. Additionally, a TCU record $4.4 million in Frog Club donations was received over the last year.

Fifteen of TCU's 20 sports in 2009-10 were represented in NCAA postseason play and 12 sports were nationally ranked.

It was an overall historic year for the Horned Frogs. In addition to the football team making its first appearance in a BCS game, the baseball team reached the College World Series for the first time. TCU was the only school in the nation to reach a BCS game in football, win at least one game at the CWS and capture a national championship in another sport.

TCU was one of just three institutions to have multiple National Coaches of the Year in Patterson (football) and Jim Schlossnagle (baseball). Patterson and Schlossnagle were part of five TCU coaches (Darryl Anderson, men's indoor track and field; Jeff Mittie, women's basketball; Angie Ravaioli-Larkin, women's golf) to receive Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year accolades.

The success on the playing field carried over to the classroom. In the Fall 2009 and Spring 2010 semesters, TCU student-athletes recorded their highest cumulative grade-point average since tracking began in 1998. Fifteen of 20 sports have team GPAs over 3.0.

The partnership between TCU and the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex was never more evident than the 2009-10 athletics campaign. Football, baseball, soccer and volleyball set single-season attendance records.

The football team routed SMU this past Friday night on ESPN; winning 41-24. It always feels great to beat SMU especially in Dallas, even better to do it on national t.v. in prime-time. The boys are looking good and with conference play starting this week, it looks like another conference championship is only a few weeks away giving the boys a second championship in two years. Already talk about which BCS Bowl we are headed to this year; can anybody say National Championship Game ??

Walters MWC Honors

Kelsey Walters was honored on Monday as the Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Against No. 17 Memphis, Walters kept the nationally ranked Tigers off the scoreboard, helping TCU claim a 3-0 victory at Memphis. Walters was dominant on defense, limiting the Lady Tigers to only six shots-on-goal on 17 shot attempts.

Overall, Walters posted her first shutout of the season and 11th all-time against Memphis, which moved her into the No. 3 spot all-time in career shutout's. The senior from Oklahoma City saved six shots last Friday night.

Walters came back Sunday to hold Ole Miss off the scoreboard for the entire second half. Overall, despite the 1-0 loss, Walter saved five balls on 15 shot attempts. She limited the Rebels to only six shots-on-goal and gave up only one goal the entire weekend away from Fort Worth.

The Horned Frogs will be back in action this Friday night at UTSA. Start time is set for 7 p.m. in San Antonio.

Today was a great day and day of rest for everyone after the big time win last night over Memphis. We had a pool workout here at the hotel and the girls' used the down time to get plenty of study hours in while on the road. We ended the day with dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe and walked around downtown Memphis; looking at tons of Rock n Roll memorabilia. We head out in the morning for Oxford. Mississippi to play Ole Miss to hopefully cap off a great weekend of Horned Frog Soccer.

TCU Rifle goes to the White House

Members of the 2010 NCAA Championship rifle team traveled to Washington D.C. over the weekend for a special ceremony hosted by President Barack Obama, honoring all 2009-10 NCAA Champions.

Erin Lorenzen, Simone Riford, Sarah Scherer, Sarah Beard and Caitlin Morrissey, along with Chancellor Victor J. Boschini, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Chris Del Conte, Associate Athletics Director Ross Bailey and head coach Karen Monez made the journey to Washington D.C. for the ceremony.

The team received a special thrill as the President formally acknowledged the TCU rifle team in his five-minute long welcome speech. The team arrived in the capital city on Monday for the celebration and returned home Tuesday morning.

"We've got the sharpshooters from the TCU rifle squad. Where are they?" Obama asked in the opening minute of his speech. "I think that they may be able to give the Secret Service a run for their money."

"It was a great thrill to be invited to the White House," remarked Monez. "It was an even greater thrill for the team and the program to be recognized in President Obama's speech. The entire trip was full of special moments for the team. It will be cherished for a long time to come."
Over 650 athletes from 32 different schools made the journey. The TCU rifle team sported black dresses to the event, which was held on the south lawn of the White House, and wore purple and black cowboy boots with the TCU logo. As a gift to the President, the team gave President Obama his own pair of TCU cowboy boots.

Where every week there is something new that students can enjoy, such as last week there was cotton candy and this week there was fruit and chocolate syrup. In the end, the fourth-ranked TCU Horned Frogs did exactly what they were supposed to do against a lower-division FCS team.

A dominating 62-7 victory over Tennessee Tech extended the Horned Frogs' home winning streak to 15 games, yet still gave coach Gary Patterson plenty of teaching points after a penalty-filled game that led to a postgame apology Saturday night.

"I didn't want to score the last touchdown. We don't do style points. ... That's not the program that we are, period. I did not want to score 60," Patterson said. "I'm not unhappy. I'm just not going to come in here jumping up and down."

TCU (2-0) was running out the clock and didn't even throw a pass while scoring three times in the fourth quarter, including a 16-yard touchdown run by seldom-used fullback Ryan Hightower with 4 minutes left. The fifth-year senior appearing in only his fourth game cut left on a short run and had a wide-open lane to the end zone.

The Frogs were just that much better than Tennessee Tech (0-2), where Patterson earned a master's degree while serving as a graduate assistant from 1983-85.

In front of the 10th largest attendance in stadium history and a nationally televised audience, TCU recorded 17 shot attempts, but it wasn't enough as the Horned Frogs dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 14 Oklahoma State on Sunday evening.

With the loss, TCU moved to 3-3-1 on the season, while Oklahoma State improved to 6-1-0 on the year. The match, which was shown on The Mtn., marked the first ever nationally televised home contest in program history.

"We had a few unfortunate bounces today, but I think we are on the right path towards our ultimate goal of winning a conference championship. We have been working so hard and I think we are coming together as a team," said Nikki Wilbur.

The Horned Frogs will next be in action at No. 20 Memphis on Friday, Sept. 17. Start time is set for 7 p.m. CT at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex.

National Televised Game this Sunday

TCU On National TelevisionSunday's nationally televised match will mark the third time in four years that the Horned Frogs will be shown on national television.

The 4 p.m. contest, which will be only the second regular season match ever televised in TCU women's soccer history, will mark the first home contest ever shown on national television and only the second ever appearance on The Mtn. On national television, the Frogs are 1-1-0 when appearing on television.

In 2007, Jackie Torda netted a goal in overtime off an assist from former Frog Michelle Nguyen to lift the Horned Frogs, who played the overtime period with only 10 players, to a 1-0 regular season victory over Houston. The 2007 contest against the Cougars was broadcast nationwide on CSTV, which is now CBS College Sports.

In its only appearance on The Mtn., TCU dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to Utah in semifinal action at the 2008 Mountain West Conference Tournament.
TCU Closing In On StreakHaving not lost since falling to USC on Aug. 27, TCU is currently on a three-match unbeaten streak. That mark is the best single-season mark since the midway point of the 2008 season when the Purple and White defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff, UTSA and New Mexico.

The school record for consecutive games without a loss is seven, which was set during the 2008 season.

Barg Honored by Top Drawer Soccer

Freshman Kristen Barg was selected on Thursday to Top Drawer Soccer's Top 100 Freshman To Watch list.
Barg, who comes into Sunday's game ranked No. 90 among collegiate freshman, has started all six games for the Horned Frogs this fall. The Plano native has netted one goal, while also dishing out one assist this season.
Top Drawer's watch list will be updated weekly. Earlier this week, Jordan Calhoun, Chelsea Cody and Jackie Torda were selected among the top 20 players in the Mountain West Conference. Calhoun is currently ranked No. 8, while Cody and Torda head into this weekend ranked No. 11 and No. 13, respectively.

Friday night against Houston the girls played hard for over 90 minutes. The game went into double over time and it was very back and forth all game long. Alex Mechalske scored a screamer of a goal in the second half that would be worthy of a Top Ten Spot on ESPN.

Sunday afternoon at Northwestern State in Louisiana, the girls did have the best of starts to the game but really showed their character and courage when we dominated the Lady Demons of Northwestern State for over 60 minutes playing a man down. Scored 3 of our 4 goals shorthanded and looked like we were the team up.

TCU's uniquely designed Nike uniform, to be worn in Saturday's season opener versus Oregon State at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, was officially unveiled Wednesday.

The Horned Frogs are one of just 10 college football programs this season to wear a new special Nike uniform for at least one game. TCU was also one of 10 schools to have the honor last season.

The Nike Pro Combat System of Dress uniforms the schools will wear are engineered to provide superior protection and durability, while utilizing advanced fabrics and tooling that reduce weight.

TCU had several chances to find the back of the net Friday night, but dropped a hard fought 1-0 decision to No. 26 USC in front of 2,318 spectators at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.

In a physical back and fourth match in front of the second largest crowd in stadium history, TCU missed on several scoring opportunities halfway through the first half.

Overall, TCU had nine different players record multiple shot attempts on Sunday. The Frogs, who played in front of 1,078 spectators, played a total of 25 players on Sunday.

TCU simply dominated Sam Houston State, holding a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks for the match. Pence, who faced constant pressure from the Frogs throughout the contest, made 14 of SHSU's 16 saves. Sophomore Kira Michelson-Bartlett, who replaced starter Kelsey Walters in the second half, posted three saves.

Scouting USC
USC enters tomorrow night's match coming off a 1-0 setback to No. 25 San Diego. After a scoreless first half, USD netted the gamewinner off a header in the 54th minute. The Trojans were led in the match by Carly Butcher, who posted two shots-on-goal. Overall, USC recorded eight shot attempts, including six on-goal against the Toreros.

USC opened the 2010 season as the nation's No. 19 ranked team in the NSCAA preseason poll and No. 20 in the Soccer America preseason poll. With their opening loss to San Diego, the Trojans slipped out of the top 25, but are still receiving votes in the NSCAA and SoccerTimes polls.

In 2009, USC made its fifth consecutive NCAA appearance in reaching the first round, falling in penalty kicks to Oklahoma State. Overall, four players remain from the Trojans' 2007 NCAA Championship squad. USC, who will travel to Texas on Sunday, was recently picked to finish third in the preseason conference coaches poll.

Calhoun Inching Closer To Record
With her two-goal outing against Texas Southern last weekend, junior Jordan Calhoun needs only three more goals to become TCU's all-time leading goal scorer. Calhoun, who now has 25 career goals, will look to surpass former Horned Frog Lizzy Karoly, who recorded 27 goals during her four-year career in Fort Worth.

Keeping Up With Recent Trends
Under head coach Dan Abdalla, TCU has made a habit of getting off to a fast start early in the season following a season-opening home victory. In each of the past three seasons, the Frogs have won their very next home game following a season-opening home victory. During that stretch, TCU has combined to outscore their second home opponent, 5-0.

Multiple Goal Scorers Mean TCU Victory
Since 2008, the Horned Frogs are 10-0-0 when a TCU player scores multiple times in a match. Upon further look, the Frogs are 6-0-0 when junior Jordan Calhoun finds the back of the net more than once in a contest. Good start to the year

We kicked off the season this past weekend in Lubbock versus Texas Tech and then came home for the home opener against Texas Southern. Sunday was a great way to end the weekend; dominating Texas Southern in every dimension of the game. The final score read 7-0 but could have easily been double digits! Freshmen Kaitlin Hellmann scored her first goal as a Horned Frog along with Freshman Brittany Slyman.

The Horned Frogs looked dangerous the whole game scoring multiple goals in both halves. We take the field this Friday night versus the Lady Trojans of USC! The Jane Justin Field house is completely done and it is a very intimidating background making Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium easily one of the best college soccer stadiums in America!

This weekend we travel to Texas Tech to play against one of our biggest in state rivals; in a game that is always a blast to watch and play in. Everyone is very excited to get after it and beat Tech at Tech this Friday night under the lights.

GoFrogs.com will give fans the chance to vote on the top 10 goals in Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium history. At the end of the week, women's soccer fans will have a chance to vote on what they believe is the top goal.

During the 2010 spring campaign, junior Alex Mechalske turned to her right and with one move blasted a shot from 30 yards out into the top half of the net against Texas Woman's University.

Camp Retreat

After a good morning session. The whole team and staff are headed down to a camp retreat outside of Waco. It is going to be a lot of fun and a good change of pace from training camp. We are going to play some soccer tennis, campfires, ropes course, and canoe races on the lake. All of the girls are excited to get away and enjoy some time off the field.

It is Day 6 of Training Camp and things are looking good. The girls are training hard and after a day of photo-shoots and video for this year's introduction pre-game video; the girls came out fresh and tackled fitness with a great attitude. Hanks newest member of the coaching staff

TCU head coach Dan Abdalla announced the addition of two-time M.A.C. Hermann Trophy winner Kerri Hanks to the TCU women's soccer coaching staff on Friday.

"Kerri is a great addition to our coaching staff," said Abdalla. "She arguably had one of the greatest individual college careers in our sport. With her experience, she should only make our coaching staff and team better."

Hanks was a four-time All-America honoree at the University of Notre Dame. She is just one of 23 players ever in Division I women's soccer history to earn All-America accolades all four season's and the youngest recipient by class year of the Hermann Trophy, which is presented to the top female and male soccer player in NCAA Division I soccer.

The Allen, Texas, native, who is the only Division I women's soccer player ever to amass at least 73 goals and 73 assists in a career, finished her four years with 84 goals and 73 assists. Overall, she holds 67 records in the Notre Dame, BIG EAST Conference or NCAA record books, while also ranking in the top 25 on 10 NCAA single-season or career lists. Hanks, who ranks 13th all-time in the NCAA in career goals and is tied for second all-time in career assists, owns the fifth-longest goal scoring streak in NCAA history. She also recorded the most assists in NCAA Championship play with 20 and is only the third player in NCAA history to reach the 50 goals, 50 assists, milestone as a junior.

During her senior season, Hanks became only the fourth woman ever to earn the M.A.C. Hermann Trophy twice, joining the likes of Mia Hamm, Cindy Parlow and Christine Sinclair. She is also the first two-time national player of the year honoree in any sport in the 123-year history of Notre Dame athletics. Hanks was a two-time finalist for the "Best Female College Athlete" at the ESPN-sponsored ESPY Awards. She finished her final season in South Bend, Ind., ranked fifth in the nation in goals (20), tied for third in assists (15) and tied for second in points (55). Hanks, who closed her career earning the prestigious Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, helped the Fighting Irish advance to the NCAA College Cup three times, including the National Championship match during both the 2006 and 2008 seasons.

Following her career at Notre Dame, Hanks, who played on the United States Under-23 National Team that won the prestigious 2008 Nordic Cup, was drafted sixth overall by the St. Louis Athletica in the inaugural Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) Draft. In 2009, Hanks led New Jersey Sky Blue FC to its first Women's Professional Soccer Championship.

Cody Earns League Honor

Senior Chelsea Cody earned All League Honors yesterday. Cody lead the Oklahoma Alliance of the WPSL to a Big Sky Conference Championship, along with other TCU teammates: Kaylie Garcia, Jordan Calhoun and Kelsey Walters. Congratulations to Chelse Cody on earning All-League-Honors for a stellar summer performance.

The TCU women's soccer team continued its preparations for the 2010 season on Thursday with a morning session at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.

GoFrogs.com sat down with senior midfielder Chelsea Cody following the morning practice to get her thoughts on preseason camp so far. Click on the link below for an exclusive interview with Cody.

TCU returns nine starters off a squad that played in the Mountain West Conference Tournament for a third-straight season. The Horned Frogs will be led up front this fall by Jordan Calhoun, who netted eight goals, while dishing out six assists in 2009. The Frogs also return senior Jackie Torda who burst onto the scene last season to earn second-team all-conference accolades.

TCU will open its regular season on Aug. 20 at Texas Tech.

We had a beatiful start to the day with this mornings training session. It went awesome the girls were so excited and it was a great first practice of training camp. We have another session tonight under the lights on a field that can only be described as amazing. Plus in the background the Jane Justin Field-House is almost done so the excitement just never ends.

It is finally here! The girls are all back on campus today reporting for training camp and everyone is very excited. There are new faces around and the air is buzzing with energy, everyone has been working their tails off all summer and ready to go.
